One of the most enjoyable causes for redecorating is the arrival of a new baby in the family. Whether you have an entire nursery to decorate or if the baby will be sleeping with mom and dad there’s still plenty of room for creative expression.

- Decide whether to go with gender neutral or baby boy or baby girl. You might decide to go with a gender neutral design if you’re unsure of what gender your new baby will be, or if you’d like to use the same room or décor for a future addition to the family as well.
- Decide on furniture style and purchase your new baby furniture (crib, rocking chair or comfy couch, bouncer, cradle or baby bed, baby mobile, etc.)Some things to consider are safety (avoid lead paint, sharp edges, chemically treated furniture that emits fumes, chemically treated carpeting or wood or metal that’s flakey or has splinters.), comfort (a large, comfortable couch or chair for mommy and baby is a nearly essential piece of furniture for any nursery) and looks (such as baby bedding that matches your décor, throw rugs, couch covers, crib padding, etc.)
- Paint or wallpaper the room.Depending on what your chosen theme or color scheme is, choose whether to paint a mural on your wall or to accent a solid color scheme with stripes or polka dots or an accent wall.
- Plan the lighting for your baby room or nursery. Some things to consider are, does the have enough natural light? What kind of window treatments should you use? Is the changing area well lit? Do you have a cozy little well lit corner for storytimes? Can you dim the lighting easily for naptimes or bedtimes?
To handle these things you’d probably consider lamps (avoid floor lamps for safety reasons, match the shades to your room décor if possible, and consider fluorescent light bulb as they stay cooler to the touch), Nightlights (both pretty and soothing and many options are available that can match your décor), Ceiling Fixtures or Skylights. - Put the finishing touches on the room such as teddy tears or dolls, a large painting or picture for the wall, an air purifiers, baby toys and toy storage. And most of all, make sure you enjoy this activity of planning and preparing a safe, cozy, welcoming room for you newest little family member.
